Five places developers actually find remote work
Five platforms, and the kind of developer each one is actually built for.

Remote work is not one market. A junior developer building a first portfolio and a specialist charging by the day are looking for different things, and the platforms sort themselves accordingly. These are the five worth your time, and what each is for.
Upwork
A freelance marketplace that works at every experience level. You show the work, you apply, and payment runs through the platform — which is the part that matters when the client is on another continent.
We Work Remotely
Filters by expertise and by level, which makes the listing quality noticeably higher than a general board. Expect to set up an account with contact details and a portfolio before it is useful.
Guru
Better suited to experienced developers. The profile goes deep — certified skills, hourly rates, languages you work in — and that depth is what the platform sorts on.
FlexJobs
Positions across every career stage, and the listings are vetted, so the dead postings that clog free boards are filtered out. It also does the unglamorous part: résumé help and career guidance.
Aquent
Digital and creative roles, software development among them. Alerts and a portfolio in front of employers, rather than an application queue.
